Lhundup Ling

It is the monasteries intention to make itself self-sufficient over the next few years, and with this in mind we plan to build a greenhouse on the site of Lhundup Ling. This site is s ituated about halfway up to the caves above the lotus lake in Tso Pema , surrounded by a serene setting of hilltop pine forests, and the breathtaking Himalayas. We intend to produce vegetables to use in the monastery kitchen. However, later on we would like to sell any surplus vegetables to local monasteries and schools. This will help generate money to put back into the project.

Free Clinic
we are planning to build and run a medical centre for the poor and needy in Tso Pema and villages in the local area, such as Mandi, Ner-Chowk and Sundernagar. The medical centre will be open everyday for minor ailments and on certain days a week for specialist services, such as dentist, eye testing, pregnancy, and nutrition. The centre will be at the entrance of the monastery for easy access and will be free to all that need its services.

The monastery has 6 rooms near the entrance, which at present are being used as guest rooms. The rooms are fairly small, so we will knock down several walls and make a doctors surgery, a dentist surgery, a room for medical supplies and dispensary, and a waiting room. We will replace some windows and doors that are beyond repair, and refurbish all others. We will also refurbish the toilet and wash area, and also the area Immediately outside the rooms, this includes putting a railing and ramp outside to make the area more secure for the sick and elderly..

We will look to employ and train a local Tibetan to be a daily nurse and we will contract Doctors in the local area to attend once a week for the specialist services.

We will look to purchase the following basic equipment:

  • 1 x dental chair - $4,500
  • 1 x examination tables - $300
  • 3 x revolving stools - $70
  • 2 x Instrument trolley - $180
  • 1 x Foot step - $20
  • 1 x Autoclave - sterilizing machine - $200
  • 1 x Dressing drum 11x9 - for sterilizing dressings - $25

The cost of the building works will be $6,520 and equipment will cost $5,295. So the total cost of the project will be $11,815.
