Dalai Lama Visit

On 1st April 2012 the monastery was extremely privileged to receive a visit from His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. He was greeted by Lho Ontul Rinpoche, who escorted him into the recently opened temple. His Holiness took tea and gave advice to the monks, as well as giving the Bodhisattva vow. View photos

Painting of Monastery Extension Begins

All the major building works have now been completed and work has started on the painting of the new extension. We are going to place 108 prayer wheels around the outside of the monastery. If you would like to purchase a wheel and dedicate it to someone the cost per wheel is $108. Please contact the office for more information.

The 5 th Oddiyana Retreat HH Sakya Trinzin visits monastery

HH Sakya Trinzin was very kind to visit Tso Pema and fullfil the request and aspirations of the Himalayan Region people and Nyingma Monastery. HH arrived on the 8th day,1st month (Tib. calendar) and HH bestowed Abisheka of three wrathful deities (Hayagriva, Garuda, Vajrapani) and also the Long life Abisheka of Mahasiddhi Thangtong Gyalpo.

On the request of HE Ontul Rinpoche and the community HH Sakya Trinzin visited our monastery on the 10th day of Tibetan Calendar. He was offered the mandala offering and long life prayers.HH also blessed and consecrated the monastery.

HH left for Dheradun on the 11th day.

On the final day of the retreat everyone went up the mountain to Guru Rinpoche's cave to offer Sang and do prayers. These were lead by Ontul Rinpoche and monks from the monastery. After lunch at the monastery everyone started to get ready for their departure for the pilgrimage or home. The 5th Oddiyana Retreat was a very special occasion and all retreatents commented on how much they had enjoyed it. We hope to see them all again in Rewalsar in the near future. View photos

'On day 6 of the retreat the retreatents offered a Mandala to Ontul Rinpoche. Ratna Rinpoche also made a short speech thanking Ontul Rinpoche for giving the wonderful teachings. He also thank all the retreatents for coming and participating in the 5 Oddiyana Retreat. He further thank all the monks for their hard work in setting up and running the retreat. Final he hope to see everyone again at the next Oddiyana Retreat. This was the last full day of the retreat. View photos

The 5th Oddiyana Retreat - DAY 2
On day two of the retreat the retreatents had a pretty pack day. It started in the morning at 6.30 with Breathing Yoga and offerings. That was followed by meditation on the Three Kayas - Amitabha, Avalokiteshvara and Guru Rinpoche. These were done in three separate sessions lasting one and a half hours each. The final session of the day was Chod. The retreatents will follow this program now until 7th February. View photos
   
The 5th Oddiyana Retreat - DAY 1
The 5th Oddiyana Retreat starts with Lho Ontul Rinpoche giving a Amitabha Empowerment to retreatents and locals. This is followed in the afternoon with a Chod Empowerment for retreatents only. The final session of the first day was Rinpoche giving oral transmissions of the texts for the retreat, and a question and answer session. In the evening Rinpoche lead a prayer session and peaceful candle lit procession around the lake. This was to show support to His Holiness Karmapa after terrible allegations of him being a Chinese spy. Hundreds of people from the area, as well as retreatents and monks, joined in the prayers and procession. View photos
Lack of skilled labour
Unfortunately, the extension to the monastery has not yet been completed. This is due to a lack of skill labour in the village. It is now hoped to be finished early next year. More
Monastery extension nearing completion
Work is now in the final stages on the monastery extension. Building works are due to finish in about 6 weeks. After that the Thangka painting on the temple walls will commence. More
Community Service
As part of the monasteries drive to be a socially responsible member of the community some monks cleaned the local drainage system. In the village the local council want to stop plastic being used and the monks cleaned the drains and the area of all waste plastic. More
The gift of shoes
At the monastery we have 22 little monks from the age of 5 to 13, and recently a kind lady donated new shoes and toys to these monks. We would like to thank her for her compassion and thoughtfulness. Work is continuing on the monastery extension and the temple has now been emptied of all statues, texts, and religios items. We have now started knocking down the rear of the temple and will soon attached it to the new building, although this is tricky, so may take some time to complete.' More

Work continues on the monastery extension and despite it being monsoon we are still on track for a December finish date - but this is India, so we will wait and see! We are also building a walk-way around the monastery for people to do Khora around the outside of the temple - see pictures. Work has started on the extension to the monastery. The tower at the rear of the building will house an extension to the temple, two class rooms, two rooms for visiting lama's, and a room for when His Holiness or visiting high Rinpoches. Work should be finished by early 2010... More
Auspicious Day for Building Works
On Tuesday 23 March 2009 Lho Ontul Rinpoche started the building works at the back of the main temple by knocking down a small wall. Here we are building a tower, which will include classrooms and accommodation for visiting Rinpoche's. The full demolition will start shortly and the plans will be put onto this site soon..
